HootCare Disclaimer

Last updated: July 29, 2026

This Disclaimer explains what the HootCare platform, operated by Hootcare Inc, is and is not, so you can use it safely and with the right expectations. Every provider and parent accepts it when creating an account. It is part of our Terms of Service.

What HootCare is — and what it isn't

HootCare is a tool for practicing speech and language skills at home, between sessions, based on what a speech-language pathologist (SLP) assigns. HootCare is not speech-language therapy, medical care, or a medical device. It does not diagnose, treat, or cure any condition, and it is not a replacement for your SLP or any other healthcare professional.

No clinical relationship with Hootcare Inc

Hootcare Inc makes and operates the HootCare software. Using HootCare does not create a clinician–patient or therapist–client relationship between you (or your child) and Hootcare Inc. The SLPs who use HootCare are independent professionals — they are not employees or agents of Hootcare Inc, and Hootcare Inc does not supervise, direct, or control the care they provide. Your SLP is solely responsible for evaluation, clinical decisions, and treatment.

AI-generated content and practice feedback

Much of what you see in HootCare — practice activities, stories, prompts, in-app feedback, and practice summaries — is generated by artificial intelligence. AI content can be incomplete, inaccurate, or a poor fit for a particular child, even when it sounds confident. Stars, streaks, and other in-app feedback are encouragement and engagement signals, not clinical measurements. No number or summary in HootCare is a diagnosis or an assessment of a child's speech, language, or development.

Not for emergencies

HootCare is not monitored in real time and must never be used for urgent or emergency situations. If you have concerns about your child's health or development, contact your SLP or physician. If you believe there is a medical emergency, call 911 (or your local emergency number) immediately.

If you are a parent or guardian

You are responsible for your child's use of HootCare, including supervising practice as your SLP recommends. Follow your SLP's guidance about how and how often to practice, and raise questions or concerns about your child's progress directly with your SLP or physician — not through the app.

If you are a speech-language pathologist

You remain solely responsible for your professional services — evaluation, diagnosis, treatment planning, and every clinical decision — and for practicing within your licensure and scope of practice. Content and data in HootCare, including AI-drafted activities, session notes, summaries, and practice metrics, are supplemental tools: review them with your professional judgment before relying on them or placing them in your clinical records, and edit or reject anything that isn't clinically appropriate. You are responsible for obtaining any consents your practice requires.

Accuracy, availability, and liability

We work hard to make HootCare reliable, but it is provided "as is": we cannot promise it will always be available, error-free, or accurate. This Disclaimer is part of the HootCare Terms of Service, and the disclaimers of warranties and limitations of liability in those Terms apply to your use of HootCare.

Your acknowledgment

By checking the acceptance box, you confirm that you have read and understood this Disclaimer, that you agree to it and to the HootCare Terms of Service, and — if you are a parent or guardian — that you accept it on behalf of your child as well.
